Terms of service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you and Lunamic ("we", "us", or "our") governing your use of Insight O' Mate (the "Service").

By creating an account or installing the desktop app, you agree to these terms. If you don't, please don't sign up.

TL;DR (this is not the legal version)

  • You own your data and your queries. We don't see them; the desktop app is local-first.
  • We provide the service "as is" and can't guarantee 100% uptime, especially during beta.
  • Use the service for lawful purposes. Don't break it, don't try to reverse-engineer the cloud parts, don't share your API key.
  • You can cancel anytime. We don't refund partial months automatically, but if something went wrong, email us — we're not jerks.

1. The service

"Service" means the Insight O' Mate desktop client, the web portal at this domain, the NLP service it talks to, and any related documentation or APIs.

We may change the Service over time. We'll give reasonable notice for material changes that affect paid plans.

2. Your account

You must be at least 13 years old to sign up (16 in the EU/UK). You're responsible for keeping your sign-in email and any API keys you create secure. We hash API keys at rest — if you lose one, you can revoke it from the portal but we can't show it to you again.

You may not create multiple accounts to circumvent free-plan quotas.

3. Plans, billing, and cancellation

  • Free plan: capped daily quota; subject to fair-use limits.
  • Paid plans: monthly or annual billing via PayPal (our merchant of record). Prices are listed on /pricing.
  • Cancellation: you can cancel from your billing dashboard at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period (you keep access until then).
  • Refunds: we do not offer automatic prorated refunds on cancellation. If you believe a refund is warranted (e.g. extended outage on our side, or unintentional auto-renewal), email iom@lunamic.co and we'll look at it case by case.
  • Taxes: prices exclude taxes unless explicitly stated. PayPal, acting as merchant of record, collects and remits applicable VAT/GST/sales tax where required.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service to violate the law or anyone's rights.
  • Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Service except via the responsible-disclosure channel (security@lunamic.co).
  • Use automated systems to circumvent rate limits.
  • Resell access to the cloud NLP service.
  • Submit prompts whose intent is to extract, reverse-engineer, or evade safety checks on third-party LLMs we may use internally.

Repeated or severe violations may result in account suspension.

5. Your content; license to operate

You retain ownership of everything you connect to the desktop app and everything you type into it. We have no rights to your data.

For metadata that does reach our portal (account profile, usage counts, API-key hashes), you grant us a non-exclusive licence to process it solely to operate the Service.

6. Our intellectual property

The Service software and brand are ours (or our licensors'). You may use the desktop client only as compiled and distributed by us. You may not reverse-engineer, decompile, or redistribute it, except to the extent required by applicable law.

7. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

Natural-language to query translation is best-effort. Always inspect generated queries before running mutations against production data — the desktop UI shows the resulting query for exactly this reason.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our aggregate liability for any claim arising out of these terms or the Service is limited to the greater of: (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) USD 50.

We're not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including lost data, lost profits, or business interruption.

9. Termination

You may terminate at any time by deleting your account. We may suspend or terminate your account for material breach of these terms after reasonable notice (or immediately for severe abuse).

On termination, the data-retention rules in the privacy policy apply.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of {{JURISDICTION_PLACEHOLDER}}. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction, subject to your local consumer-protection rights.
