Insight O\u2019 Mate lets you query Excel workbooks (.xlsx, .xlsm) and CSV files using plain English. Filter, group, aggregate, and join sheets locally in memory \u2014 no formulas, no data upload, no VLOOKUP complexity.

What is Insight O' Mate for Excel & CSV?

Insight O' Mate is an AI-powered natural language spreadsheet query tool. Users drag and drop Excel workbooks (.xlsx, .xlsm) or CSV files into the desktop app, then ask questions in plain English. The NLP engine receives the question and the column names — never cell values — and generates an in-memory aggregation or filter operation that runs locally. No data is uploaded to any server.

How it works

01

Open your Excel or CSV file

Drag and drop an .xlsx, .xlsm, or .csv file into the desktop app. No credentials required. The file is parsed locally in memory — nothing is uploaded.

02

Ask in plain English

Type your question: "Total revenue by category" or "Join Orders with Customers by CustomerID." The NLP engine receives your question and column names — never cell values.

03

Get the results instantly

The aggregation, filter, or join runs in memory on your machine. Results are displayed immediately. No formula syntax, no pivot table setup, no VLOOKUP.

Natural language Excel & CSV query examples

Real examples showing how plain-English questions are translated into in-memory aggregations, filters, and cross-sheet joins.

YOU

Show me the total revenue by product category.

Generated operation & example result

// In-memory aggregation result
GROUP BY category
SUM(revenue) AS total_revenue
ORDER BY total_revenue DESC

// Example results:
// Electronics:  $124,500
// Clothing:     $87,200
// Home & Garden: $53,100

Groups all rows by the category column, sums the revenue column for each group, and orders by total descending.

YOU

Find customers who spent more than $500 this month.

Generated operation & example result

// In-memory filter result
FILTER WHERE
  order_date >= first_day_of_current_month
  AND total_amount > 500

// Returns matching rows from the spreadsheet
// with all columns preserved.

Filters rows based on date and amount conditions — equivalent to a complex FILTER formula in Excel.

YOU

Join the Orders sheet with the Customers sheet by CustomerID.

Generated operation & example result

// Cross-sheet join result
JOIN Orders ON Orders.CustomerID = Customers.CustomerID

// Returns merged rows with columns from both sheets:
// CustomerID, CustomerName, Email, OrderDate,
// OrderTotal, ProductName, Quantity

Performs an in-memory join across two sheets — replaces nested VLOOKUP or INDEX/MATCH formulas.

YOU

Average order value by month for 2024.

Generated operation & example result

// In-memory aggregation result
GROUP BY MONTH(order_date), YEAR(order_date)
WHERE YEAR(order_date) = 2024
AVG(order_total) AS avg_order_value
ORDER BY month ASC

// Example results:
// January 2024: $127.50
// February 2024: $134.20
// March 2024: $142.80

Groups by month and year, calculates average order value for each period, and orders chronologically.

YOU

Count rows where status is 'Approved'.

Generated operation & example result

// In-memory count result
COUNT(*) WHERE status = 'Approved'

// Returns: 847 rows match the filter.

Simple count with a filter condition — equivalent to COUNTIF in Excel.

YOU

Find duplicate email addresses in the contacts sheet.

Generated operation & example result

// In-memory duplicate detection
GROUP BY email
HAVING COUNT(*) > 1
SELECT email, COUNT(*) AS occurrences

// Example results:
// john@example.com — 3 times
// jane@example.com — 2 times

Groups by email and filters for groups with more than one occurrence — reveals duplicates without manual formula work.

YOU

Show the top 10 products by quantity sold.

Generated operation & example result

// In-memory aggregation result
GROUP BY product_name
SUM(quantity) AS total_quantity
ORDER BY total_quantity DESC
LIMIT 10

// Example results:
// Widget A:  1,240 units
// Widget B:  987 units
// Widget C:  854 units

Groups by product, sums quantity across all rows, sorts descending, and returns the top 10.

YOU

Total expenses per department for the Q3 budget sheet.

Generated operation & example result

// In-memory aggregation result
GROUP BY department
SUM(amount) AS total_expenses
ORDER BY total_expenses DESC

// Example results:
// Engineering: $342,100
// Marketing:   $128,500
// Operations:  $94,200

Aggregates expense amounts by department — replaces a pivot table with a plain-English question.

Frequently asked questions

Can I query Excel workbooks using natural language?
Yes. Insight O’ Mate includes an in-memory aggregation engine that parses Excel workbooks (.xlsx, .xlsm) and CSV files. You can filter, group, aggregate, and perform cross-sheet joins using plain English without writing any formulas.
Does Insight O’ Mate upload my Excel or CSV files to the cloud?
No. Excel and CSV files are parsed locally on your machine. The in-memory aggregation engine runs entirely locally. The NLP engine receives only your question and the column names from your spreadsheet — never the actual cell values.
Can Insight O’ Mate replace VLOOKUP and INDEX/MATCH?
Yes, for many common use cases. Cross-sheet joins work like VLOOKUP but in plain English: 'Join Orders with Customers by CustomerID.' This replaces complex nested VLOOKUP or INDEX/MATCH formulas with a single natural-language question.
What Excel file formats are supported?
Excel workbooks (.xlsx, .xlsm) and CSV files (.csv). Password-protected files are not currently supported. Excel formulas within cells are not evaluated — only the computed cell values are used.
Can I query multiple sheets at once?
Yes. You can ask questions that span multiple sheets in the same workbook. Specify the sheet names in your question (e.g., 'Join the Orders sheet with the Customers sheet') and Insight O’ Mate performs the cross-sheet join in memory.
Is Insight O’ Mate a replacement for Excel or Google Sheets?
No. It’s a querying and analysis tool, not a spreadsheet editor. You cannot edit cells, apply formatting, or write formulas through Insight O’ Mate. It reads your spreadsheets and answers questions about the data in them.
What operations are supported for Excel and CSV querying?
Filter (WHERE conditions), aggregation (SUM, AVG, COUNT, MAX, MIN, GROUP BY), cross-sheet joins (equivalent to VLOOKUP), ordering (ORDER BY), and limiting results (LIMIT/TOP). All operations run in memory on your local machine.
